National D.E.A.R. Day, once again

April 12 is National D.E.A.R. Day! I wrote a post last year for the Authors Lounge blog that still applies today. What will you read to celebrate?

I am the girl who got to the end of the lunch line in 3rd grade and looked up from my book to the cafeteria lady’s “ahem”, completely oblivious to the fact that I’d gone the whole way through the line without picking up a single item of food.

I am the girl who appeared in family videos as only the top of a head peeking out from above Anne of Green Gables while the rest of the cousins played flashlight tag.

So I might be a little biased toward reading. Continue reading

Kid Lit Blog Hop 5

Welcome to the 5th Kid Lit Blog Hop. These Hops take place on the first and third Wednesday of each month. We were soooo close to getting 100 links last time, just falling short at 91. Every week we’ve been seeing a mix of new and familiar faces. So join in, link up, and hop around to make some new friends. Let’s see if we can get 100 links this time around! Remember, you can add more than one link too.

Reading lounge, reading glasses

Target set up a huge tent at the Miami Book Fair that they labeled the Reading Lounge, and they had glasses frames for everyone to decorate their own reading glasses. I used stickers to put Max’s name on the glasses, so he can have those, but I also wore them around a little during lunch. More photos from the trip!

A book nerd’s Christmas

[Updated: I’m traveling, so I originally published this post this from my phone. I have no idea why the shift button didn’t work, but it’s all fixed now!]

I arrived this morning in Miami, Florida, more than ready for the international Miami Book Fair. It’s like Christmas! I felt I’d been ready for it ever since last year, when half my team of publicists went down south to work the Author Solutions, Inc. booth, while a few other stragglers and I held down the fort at the office. Kid Lit Blog Hop #4

Welcome to our 4th Kid Lit Blog Hop. These Hops take place on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Last time was our biggest Hop yet with 78 links to all kinds of different blogs and websites.

Personally, I’ve been having a great time following new blogs and interacting with new readers. So please, join in, link up, and hop around to make some new friends. Let’s see if we can get 100 links this time around!

Read a book, give a book

Kid-Lit-Blog-HopI’m linking this post up with the Kid Lit Blog Hop!

I mentioned in my post last week that penguin publishing has a website that gives away one child’s book to a child without one each time someone reads through a story on the site. If your child is like mine, he or she loves to press the buttons on your keyboard anyway. If you read a book with that child at We Give Books, he or she can click the mouse for each page turn. Max loves this.

Penguin Publishing's We Give Books

I’d like to challenge all my visitors today to take the time you would have spent reading the rest of my blog (since this is so short!) and visit We Give Books. Read a story at the site and gain a new way to combine reading and giving for your children.

Let me know which story you choose!

A Momma’s dream come true

Kid-Lit-Blog-HopI’m linking this post up with the Kid Lit Blog Hop!

Rather than talk about a specific book today, I’d like to talk about a specific place for you to get your books. It’s fantastic to receive books for holidays/birthdays, but you can expand your reading pleasures in a cost-effective way. Max and I went to the library yesterday, and though it felt like we were only there for about 20 minutes, we stayed almost an hour. Continue reading
