Early enough for Father’s Day! Mighty Dads Blog Tour

My husband and I are expecting our second son at the end of the month, and I’ve been looking for a “new daddy” gift to give him that will commemorate this special day in our lives. I know he’ll be teaching both our boys all that they know about tons of subjects (anything outdoors, I stink at), so Mighty Dads is a great choice! For about 15 months, Max went to play with his friend when Mommy and Daddy were both at work. Sometimes that meant four days a week, sometimes two, sometimes one; but it was always with the same one kid and the same one mom.

At the beginning of the summer, that family moved away (Not too far – we visited them last week for a day at the pool! Just too far to drive him there to be babysat). Luckily for us, our neighbor two doors down is able to watch him. Unluckily, Max took awhile to adjust. (Mommy got lucky: Daddy always drops him off, while Mommy always picks him up, so Daddy was always the one there for the crying.)

I look forward to having tomorrow off work for the Fourth of July! This is our first Independence Day in our new house, and we’re having a block party with our neighbors. I can’t wait! I hope the rest of you have sunshine, but I think ours will be dotted with thunderstorms. Okay by me, though – that gives me time to visit your blogs!

Kid Lit Blog Hop #6

Welcome to the 6th Kid Lit Blog Hop. These Hops take place on the first and third Wednesday of each month. Thank you so much to everyone who has linked into the Hop previously and welcome to those of you visiting us for the first time! Every week we’ve been seeing a mix of new and familiar faces. So join in, link up, and hop around to make some new friends.

The Holiday season is coming up fast and it is a busy, busy, busy time of year for all of us; therefore, we will only be having ONE Hop this month. You’ll see us back at it on the SECOND Wednesday of January – that’s the 9th! For just the month of January, the Hops will take place on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month.

“Mr. No”

We had Max’s 18 month check-up last week, and I about choked when I read the Development Milestones title: “Mr. No”. How did they know that’s all Max has been saying for the past 3 weeks?

You see, I was smug, up until 3 weeks ago. Our child rarely told us no. In fact, if you asked him 10 questions, you’d get 9 yeses to each no. That didn’t last. Now, our world has flip-flopped. The little one’s default answer is now negative, and momma’s attitude is now not always positive!

For instance, we went to a neighborhood Halloween party Saturday, so we dolled Max up in his duck costume: webbed orange slippers, bright yellow bodysuit, and duck-billed  hood. He’s been practicing his quacking for, oh, the past year, and he learned to flap his wings reading Down By The Cool of the Pool, so we thought we were set.

Except.

If you’re having trouble getting your little one to brush his or teeth before bed, Felicity Brooks and Desideria Guicciardini have just the book for you. In fact, I’m thinking they must have their own little night owls who inspired Brush your teeth, Max and Millie!

I must say, refusal to brush teeth hasn’t been an issue in our house. My Max actually cries when you take his toothbrush away. He picked up the book in the library specifically because he saw a kid brushing his teeth on the front. (The name was a happy accident!)

“Max, do you want a doggie or a brother?” Max didn’t skip a beat. “Baby!” Daddy’s jaw dropped. Mommy giggled.
