Pinterest Scavenger Hunt: Day 28

Are monsters too scary for not-quite-2 year olds? Max and I would say no, at least if we’re talking about the monsters in Ed Heck’s Many Marvelous Monsters.

Many Marvelous Monsters by Ed Heck

This book is perfect for little ones trying to get into the Halloween spirit. Continue reading

Anything with Dancing in the title…

will certainly be a hit with my little one. He’s got some great moves!

The Knife and the Fork Go Dancing really starts with no dancing at all, but by the end author Traudi Allen shows some beautiful moves of her own through two of her three main characters, fork and knife. (Spoon watches and gleams.) Continue reading

Shark vs. Train

Here’s the book review I teased you about last week! Shark vs. Train by Chris Barton was the other book I picked up at the Scholastic book fair at Ball State about a year and a half ago. I picked it up because it screamed BOY to me. Continue reading

My American Boy(‘s Mom) Has a Baseball Dream

Wiffle-ball and bat set, whiffleball, baseballOne of the first presents Max got was a wiffle ball and bat set. It took a little time, but he adores swinging that bat (he doesn’t discriminate about what he hits – people, toys, furniture – we’re working on it). Also, judging by the amount of sand he flung on our beach vacation last week, he’s no slouch at throwing, either. Continue reading

C’mon Toddlers: Just Bust a Move!

Down By the Cool of the Pool, frog story, children's book, Tony Mitton, Guy Parker-Rees, Kohl's CaresWe picked up Down By the Cool of the Pool by Tony Mitton at Kohl’s because we needed to spend a few more dollars for Kohl’s Cash … isn’t that always the way?

Max loves the colors in the book – they’re so bright and festive! The pinks in the sky, the greens of the frog, and the blues of the water are just the beginning of the beautiful palette used by illustrator Guy Parker-Rees. Continue reading

Count those piggies

For our second night of the Great Reading Streak – yes, now it’s all capitalized – Max and I settled down to read “Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes” by Mem Fox, with illustration by Helen Oxenbury. Max was immediately taken with the hardcover that actually felt squishy soft. He kept trying to shut the book so he could squeeze the front and back, which feature Oxenbury’s cute little baby characters. Continue reading

I’m a duck and you’re a bear

“Witzy’s Fun Bath” written by Katie Kobbie and illustrated by Suzy Spafford

Witzy’s Fun Bath Cover Art

One of the lessons of the board book is that taking baths can be fun. Four characters open the story, Patches the giraffe and Lulla the bunny watching Witzy the duck and Boof the bear playing in the rain and mud. Witzy is excited to take a bath after they play, but Boof is somewhat wary about it. Continue reading
